Foster Care

You Can Help Us Provide Foster Care Without Fostering a Child Yourself

In a society where inequality is still rife and social challenges are plentiful, it is often children who suffer most. If they do not provide the nurturing and support they deserve, the effects of this suffering are likely to follow them through their entire life, always causing them to be a step behind the rest of society. Yet, not everybody has the capacity or ability to provide foster care, even if they want to help. The good news is that you can easily lend your support with having to physically take a child into your home.

According to the local government website, the purpose of foster care is “to temporarily protect and nurture a child in need of care and protection by providing a safe and healthy environment with positive support until the child can be reunified with his or her family of origin.”

Furthermore, their website states that “children are placed in foster care for different reasons, which include abuse, deliberate neglect and exploitation. Foster care is a form of alternative care for a child who, as a result of a court order, is placed under the supervision of a person who is not his or her parent or guardian.”

Abraham Kriel Bambanani is a registered non-profit organisation that has been providing foster care, support and skills development to children and youth in need in South Africa for the past 120 years. We are continuously expanding and shaping our services to meet the demands of a changing society.

Currently, traumatised, abandoned, neglected and orphaned children are sent to Abraham Kriel Bambanani by the Children’s Court. In most cases, these children are removed from their parents or guardians due to:

  • extreme poverty
  • abandonment
  • death of their parents or guardians
  • health or disability
  • behavioural problems
  • neglect
  • drug abuse or alcoholism
  • sexual or physical abuse
  • imprisonment of their parents or guardians

We aim to:

  • help reunify these children with their parents/family where possible or to reintegrate them into the broader community; and
  • develop and empower these children so that they can become contributing members of society.

As part of our foster care service, Abraham Kriel Bambanani provides these children with a home with parents or childcare workers, daily meals, healthcare, access to education, and more. This is where you come in. We cannot do all of this without your support. A simple donation – whether once off or on a monthly basis – makes it possible for us to continue providing this essential service. Together, we can make a huge difference in the lives of these children. See our website for more details on how to donate.
